Mole Removal in Neutral Bay, Sydney

The Skin Cancer and Cosmetic Clinic are the experts in detecting and preventing potential Skin Cancer with our precautionary mole removal surgery.

How To Remove A Mole?

When assessing for mole removal, patient safety is the number one consideration. Doctors at our clinic will assess if a mole is beginning to show signs of malignancy, (which means the presence of cancer), before deciding which method to use.

We do this by analysing the mole with a dermoscopy or the latest A.I. laser skin cancer detection Spectroscope by ‘Speclips’. To learn more about the A.I. Spectroscope by ‘Speclips’ click to watch the video.

Cancer Suspicious Mole Removal:

For moles with suspicious signs of skin cancer (in particular melanoma or pigmented Basal Cell Carcinoma), the lesion is first biopsied to determine its nature before deciding which mole removal technique we use.

For suspicious lesions, traditional surgical excision with primary closure with suturing is the method of choice and the whole excised mole is sent for histopathological examination.

Cosmetic Mole Removal:

Once established a mole is benign, meaning it is not harmful, we can use our various cutting edge techniques to vaporize and remove the mole with minimal to no scarring.

Each method has different benefits, so depending on the type of mole and where it is situated we will recommend the most suitable options for your needs. (See below for more detail description on techniques available)

Types of Mole Removal Treatments Available

Radiosurgery:

Using state of the art radiofrequency waveform to remove a matured raised mole while its base is simultaneously cauterised. This gives minimal scarring with an excellent cosmetic outcome.

CO2 laser Mole Removal:

CO2 laser can be used for precise vaporization of moles that have melanocytes occurring above and below the skin surface. It generally leaves a great cosmetic result but some patients with skin of colour may have a temporary post-inflammatory pigmentation. Your skin and mole need to be assessed to exclude skin cancer before doing this treatment.

Shave & Electrosurgery:

This treatment involves shaving the benign raised mole under local anaesthetic to the level of the skin with a surgical blade and the base is cauterised with an electrical surgical device.

Electrodesiccation:

This treatment is ideal for treating raised seborrhoeic keratoses on face or body and also good for the treatment of irritating skin tags that tend to grow on the axilla or trunk.

Punch Excision:

For small 1-2mm flat moles, they can be removed including the base with a surgical punch under local anaesthetic. Heals nicely without the need for suturing.

Er-Yag laser Mole Removal:

Where we utilise vaporization to remove a mole without cutting to name just a few more. This laser is ideal to remove flat blemishes as it vaporises the lesion layer by layer. It’s best to have your mole assessed by our doctors for the most suitable method for your mole removal.
