With over 100,000 IPL treatments performed with our Lumenis IPL systems since 2002, it remains one of the most frequently performed and desired procedures by our clients and the numbers are not getting any less despite new lasers coming to our clinic year on year.
IPL remains an excellent treatment for sun damaged skin, freckles, pigmentation, flushing faces and unwanted capillaries with no downtime and patients can return to work straight away after treatment.
IPL or Intense Pulsed Light is basically a broad spectrum multi-wavelength light that targets 2 main chromophores in your skin, namely Melanin (present in freckles and pigment blemishes) and Haemoglobulin (present in Red Blood Cells). The light energy (photons) is absorbed by these chromophores and denatures the protein and thus eliminates pigment blemishes, broken capillaries and flushed skin. Because IPL also emits longer wavelength light, it also heats up dermal collagen causing new collagen formation and patients find that their skin textures, wrinkles and acne scars improve at the same time.
As a general rule: 2-3 treatments one month apart achieves the desired result of most. Touch-up treatments with different wavelength can be done every 3 months to give a “Eternally Young” result.
Feel free to ask one of our doctors or clinic staff about this truely tested treatment.
