Laser Acne Treatment

Laser Acne Treatment

1) Fotona Twinlight acne treatment: (NdYag and ErYag laser treatments)

Developments in laser technology now offer a breakthrough in the treatment of active acne and acne scarring. Fotona long pulse NdYag laser penetrates the skin without causing any injury and thermally affects the sebaceous glands, which are often responsible for causing acne. For mild to moderate acne a single treatment is sufficient to suppress acne for up to three months or even longer. For severe acne more frequent treatments are required and continuous improvement is seen over the following few months.*

To treat acne scars, lasers have been used for many years now. The laser is used to remove micron-thin layers of skin. Unlike chemical peels and dermabrasion, laser allows the physician to precisely control the depth at which skin is removed and can thus make the treatment as mild or aggressive you want it to be. The laser gently vaporizes the acne-scarred surface of the skin so that within days undamaged, young and healthy-looking skin can be formed in its place.

Advantages of Laser Acne Treatment:

  • safe and effective

  • fast and convenient

  • no medication

  • improves skin texture and tone

  • long-lasting results

2) Photodynamic therapy for acne.

As more and more P.acne bacteria becomes resistant to oral antibiotics and you might not want to take oral Retinoids for fear of it’s side effects. Photodynamic therapy is a treatment whereby we apply a photosensitiser cream on your acne affected skin (for about 45minutes) and allow the sebaceous glands and bacteria to metabolise the drug and become super sensitive to certain wavelength of light. After which, we wash off the photosensitiser and activate the drug by specific wavelength emitted by a high fluence LED light source, laser or an IPL. This would react with the sebaceous glands and bacteria to cause destruction or suppression of the glands depending on the dosing. Although there may be a moderate to severe skin reaction to the treatment with a 5-7 day down time, the result is a long lasting clearer skin with much less active sebaceous glands that have tendency to breakout without the need for oral drug therapy. For best results, you may need 2-4 treatments spaced about 1 month apart. This treatment is not to be taken lightly and a consultation with our experienced doctors in mandatory before deciding treatment.
